Aorta and abdominal arteries CT angiography is an advanced imaging technique used to visualize and assess the condition of the aorta and the arteries supplying the abdominal organs. This procedure involves the intravenous administration of a contrast agent, which enhances the visibility of blood vessels on CT scans. It is highly effective in diagnosing a range of vascular conditions and pathological changes in the abdominal area.

Procedure: During the CT angiography, the patient lies on a table that moves through the CT scanner. A contrast medium is injected into a vein to improve the visualization of the blood vessels. The CT scanner takes multiple cross-sectional images, which are then processed to produce detailed 3D images of the aorta and abdominal arteries.

Indications:

  • Identifying aortic aneurysms.
  • Detecting stenosis or occlusions in the abdominal arteries.
  • Evaluating congenital vascular anomalies.
  • Assessing blood supply to abdominal organs.
  • Planning surgical interventions.

Preparation:

  • Fast for 4-6 hours before the procedure and avoid all food and fluids except for a small amount of water.
  • Inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions, allergies, or medications, especially if you have kidney issues or are allergic to contrast agents.
  • Consult with your doctor about stopping any medications that may interfere with the contrast agent.
  • Notify your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as this may affect the decision to proceed with the examination.

Procedure:

  • A contrast agent is injected intravenously to enhance the visibility of the blood vessels.
  • The patient lies on the CT scanner table in a supine position.
  • Remain still during the scan to obtain clear images.
  • The CT scanner uses X-rays to capture detailed 3D images of the aorta and abdominal arteries.
