Pelvic arteries CT angiography is a diagnostic procedure that uses computed tomography (CT) to visualize the arteries supplying blood to the organs of the pelvis. This non-invasive technique provides detailed images of the arteries that supply the uterus, ovaries, prostate, bladder, and rectum.

Procedure: During the CT angiography, a contrast medium is injected into a vein to enhance the visibility of the arteries on the CT images. The procedure involves a series of CT scans to create three-dimensional images of the pelvic arteries. This method is used to detect conditions such as atherosclerosis, aneurysms, blockages, or congenital anomalies of the arteries.

Indications:

  • Evaluation of the arterial system before pelvic surgeries, including endovascular procedures or surgeries on pelvic organs.
  • Diagnosis of pelvic vascular conditions, such as atherosclerotic disease, aneurysms, blockages, or congenital anomalies.
  • Post-surgical or post-endovascular procedure monitoring to assess treatment outcomes.
  • Investigation of suspected ischemia of the pelvic organs due to compromised blood flow.
  • Identification of bleeding sources in the pelvic area due to trauma or tumors.

Preparation:

  • Fast for 6-8 hours before the procedure and avoid food and drinks.
  • Inform your doctor about any allergies, particularly to contrast agents.
  • Notify your doctor about any existing chronic conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, or thyroid disorders.
  • Shaving the area of the scan may be required.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the use or discontinuation of specific medications before the procedure.

Procedure:

  • The patient lies on the CT scanner table.
  • Contrast agent is injected intravenously.
  • A series of scans are performed in various projections.
  • The patient must remain still and follow the medical staff's instructions during the procedure.
